Post Apocalyptic Fantasy

I imagine El Presidente waving his arms in front of Mr. Suggs, saying ... "Now repeat after me:   What the musicians are telling you are lies!  All lies!  Thursday was a good day ... 3 percent ... I -- Stanley R. Romenstein -- am the leader of this organization!  I am doing a pretty good job!"

Fact of the Day:  Did you know that there are 15 people in ASO management who make more than the musicians do?  I'm sure these people have devoted all their lives to their craft ...

  1. My favorite statements:

“I am the leader of the organization and there are times you have to lead by example.”
Is he kidding? No; no, he's not.

“You have got to be willing to go on strike. Having said that, did they even have a strike fund? No, so they didn’t even have a threat of a strike. You can’t strike without money to feed your kids.”
Nota bene: set up a strike fund and get a good attorney for next time (not even 2 years away!).

“If the management hasn’t been as successful as they could have been in the last five to 10 years, they are not going to be successful in the next five to 10. It doesn’t work that way, and as long as the current management survives, nothing will change in the next two years.”
Yeah ... great. Pay attention, ASO and WAC!

    And finally:
"The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is a major force in the city’s cultural life. Beginning months ago, when the contract negotiations between the symphony and its players were just heating up, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has dug into the organization’s finances and kept readers up to date on the contract talks. Look to us for more unmatched coverage in the days and weeks to come."
Apparently, my idea of great coverage and the AJC's are utterly different. Has anyone seen any financial data other than limited contract speak?

  2. Of course not! The media is obviously siding with management. There were many many letters sent to the AJC and Creative Loafing and none were printed. I think the power and control WAC has is staggering and more than frightening..
It amazes me Stanley can say these things, but then he has to tell himself something doesn't he just for conscience sake.

  3. I shouldn't be posting late at night after a glass of wine. I woke up this morning, debating with myself if I should just post news articles without the rude peanut-gallery comments. I really loved the 'unmatched coverage' blurb.

  4. And what's this 'up-to-date' business?
